The District performs two major services for resident protection: Fire Protection and Emergency Services, and Water Main & Fire Hydrant Upgrades.

In addition to these vital services, the District supplies many additional services and programs to support residents. The following is a list of services performed by the District.


 

EUCALYPTUS RISK MITIGATION PROGRAM

Introduction

The Eucalyptus Risk Mitigation Program is an initiative funded by the Los Altos Hills County Fire District to try and responsibly reduce the risks that are posed by certain (not all) Eucalyptus trees in our district.

FIRE SUPRESSION SERVICES

Fire suppression services provided through contract with the Santa Clara County Fire Department.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL RESPONSE

Emergency medical response for accidents, injury or illness.

SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT PURCHASES

Our District supports various agencies through purchases of specialized equipment, such as:

  • Weather station for use by the Santa Clara County Central Fire Protection District (“County Fire”) for monitoring weather during high fire hazard days
  • Specialized fire apparatus for use in the high hazard brush and grass fire areas
  • New rescue apparatus unit for County Fire prior to it life expectancy expiration
  • Specialized rescue tools
  • State-of-the-art fire hydrant and water main testing equipment
  • Specialized medical equipment

FIREFIGHTER STAFFING SUPPORT

Provides for additional staffing (firefighters) during periods of high fire hazard days or as otherwise needed.

FIRE PREVENTION AWARENESS PROGRAMS

The distribution of fire prevention information to all District residents.

FUEL REDUCTION / FIRE BREAKS

Funding of a fuel reduction/fire break program at a Town preserve through the use of goats and conservation corps personnel.

BRUSH CHIPPING PROGRAM

A brush chipping program is offered free of charge twice a year to residents living in the District.

NEW WATER MAIN AND FIRE HYDRANT UPGRADES

The District operates a program to replace undersized water mains and install new water mains and fire hydrants as needed. The District spends over $2,000,000 annually on this program and additional funds are budgeted for its continuation.

GARDEN DEBRIS DROP OFF

A garden debris drop-off program is funded by the District and operated by the garbage company.

This program allows residents to drop-off garden debris and other combustible plant materials once a month at free of charge at Foothill College the 3rd Saturday of every month.

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PROGRAMS AND PUBLIC EDUCATION

The Los Altos Hills County Fire District sponsors the offering of rograms developed by the Santa Clara County Fire Department dealing with disaster preparedness.

Programs are offered free of charge for the homeowner in the district and include:

Personal Emergency Preparedness (PEP)
Senior Plus Emergency Preparedness (Senior Health & Wellness).
