An important function for our District is education. Our training and education department is overseen by Emergency Services Coordinator - Mike Sanders.
Mike brings a high level of dedication and knowledge to this position with over 25 years in the department as a firefighter captain and educator.
We offer several public classes; both developed by LAHCFD and developed in conjunction with other agencies.

Personal Emergency Preparedness (PEP)
Without warning, disasters can strike the Bay Area leaving us and our families vulnerable. From power outages to major earthquakes, there are ways that you can prepare to be ready in the event a disaster occurs.
PEP is a free workshop offered to residents of the District. In this course you learn about the many types of disasters that can hit the Bay Area and what you can do to be ready.
Personal Emergency Preparedness For Kids (PEP)
Kids ages 10-16 are invited to get a head start on Personal Emergency Preparedness. In this fun class, we explore how to make our homes safer places to live, we look at life threatening conditions, and even tour the firestation to view where firefighters live and the kinds of equipment they use.
PEP For Kids is a free workshop offered to residents of the District. In this course you learn about the many types of disasters that can hit the Ba y Area and what you can do to be ready.
Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT)
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
This is a five week course covering a total of 15 classroom hours (in addition to the PEP requirement below.
Prerequisite: Previously attended a Personal Emergency Preparedness (PEP) or Sr + Personal Emergency Preparedness (SPEP) class taught by the Los Altos Hills County Fire District / Santa Clara County Fire Department.

CPR For Family & Friends
This course is designed for anyone who wants to learn rescue skills that can be helpful when caring for loved ones. You will learn Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for adults, infants and children as well as procedures for aiding a choking victim. The course includes a 2-year certification Heart Saver CPR Certificate. A brief AED overview instruction will also be included in this course, without certification.
Prerequisite: Previously attended a Personal Emergency Preparedness (PEP) or Sr + Personal Emergency Preparedness (SPEP) class taught by the Los Altos Hills County Fire District / Santa Clara County Fire Department.
