Jitze Couperus - LAHCFD Commission President

We welcome you to the LAHCFD website, which serves both Los Altos Hills and adjacent unincorporated areas. We use this website to communicate information about the new programs and equipment which will help meet the residents’ emergency needs.

The mission of the Los Altos Hills County Fire District is to protect the lives, property, and environment of the community it serves from fires, disasters, and medical emergencies or incidents through education, prevention, and emergency response services.

We continue to upgrade and renew our equipment on a planned basis over the years. Recently we brought a new engine into service. In the last year we have also completed the installation of ruggedized computers in our response vehicles that run specialized applications to aid in our mission. They carry extensive reference information on-board as well as being in radio contact with central servers. We recently also placed on operational status a fully equipped disaster-response trailer as well as an “ark” containing disaster supplies.

The community’s response to the Emergency Preparedness courses that we offer continues to be very gratifying. We encourage you to use this website to sign up for them. We plan to continue and enhance our offerings in the area of both “personal preparedness” and in support of the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) program which is run in partnership with the Town of Los Altos Hills.

We continue to be very aggressive in the area of disaster prevention. The very popular Brush Chipping program will continue to be conducted twice a year, and we sponsor regular pick up days for garden debris in a parking lot at Foothill College. We also have a dead pine tree removal program in which we aid homeowners in the removal of dead pine trees. In addition, we recently initiated a program to prioritize high-risk stands of Eucalyptus where we also work with home-owners to reduce fire risk through trimming and debris removal. Cards are mailed to residents each year allowing voluntary participation in these programs.

We typically hold a monthly meeting on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at the El Monte Fire Station at Foothill College Campus. The public is welcome to attend these meetings. We are here to serve district residents, for a safer community.

Sincerely
Jitze Couperus
President
