Emergency Notification System PDF Print E-mail

In the fall of 2007, The Los Altos Hills County Fire District, in conjunction with the Town of Los Altos Hills provided a new and much improved notification system to alert residents via telephone of local area emergencies.

About the Emergency Notify System

Rapid NotifyThe Emergency Notify System uses equipment and services provided by RapidNotify (www.rapidnotify.com) and GIS mapping system cobmined with AT&T's 911 database. The system sends a telephone message to only those residents affected by an emergency event considered to be a threat to public safety and/or property. In a widespread event the system is capable of making tens of thousands of calls each hour.

Authorized Agencies and Authorized Personnel work together to send a recorded message that gives residents information needed to protect their health, safety, and property. Authorized Personnel can activate the Emergency Notify System from any location with internet access via secure website and are able to initiate an immediate response.

When is the RapidNotify System Activated?

The system is used for announcing any emergency which is considered to be 1) injurious or threatening to public health or safety or 2) a significant threat to public or private property. Examples of an emergency include:

  • Large-scale disasters such as earthquake, fire, flood etc.
  • Criminal activity where public safety is threatened.
  • Missing persons who are considered "at-risk" such as a small child, or and elderly person suffering from dementia.
  • Damaged infrastructure such as roads or utilities considered a threat to public safety and / or property.
  • Confirmed wildlife sighting believed to be a threat to public safety.
  • Any other incident or event not meeting the above criterion that is deemed by an Authorized Agency to be a threat to public safety and property.
