How long have you been involved with CERT and what interested you in joining?
I joined CERT in 2014. Basically I took the personal preparedness class from Mike Sanders and decided to check out CERT also.
Please share a contribution of yours within CERT that you are most proud of.
Working with Dave Stewart we keep CERT alive between CERT coordinators
What has been the most rewarding aspect of being a CERT member for you personally?
Working with other local volunteers to prepare for disasters to help our community.
How has your involvement with CERT changed your perspective on emergency preparedness in our community?
It drove home how pre-planning is key to preparedness; you can’t expect to effectively respond to a disaster without preparing beforehand.
What advice would you give to residents who are considering joining CERT or want to learn more about personal preparedness?
Give it a try! You’ll acquire valuable knowledge and techniques, and perhaps even want to participate on an ongoing basis.
Please share any other volunteer work you are involved in, including organizations you support or community activities you take part in.
I’m on several non-profit boards (San Antonio Hills Homeowners Assoc, Southern Peninsula Emergency Communication System (SPECS), Association of Silicon Valley Amateur Radio Organizations (ASVARO). I’m also very active as a Red Cross disaster response volunteer.
