The Los Altos Hills County Fire District is excited to announce the return of the annual herbivory vegetation management treatment at Byrne Preserve. This service is provided by goat grazing to reduce the fire fuels in the open space areas that includes grasses, tree branches, thistle, poison oak and any vegetation within reach of the goats.

Approximately 450 goats, along with professional sheepherders and herding dogs, are expected to complete their vegetation clearing in 9 to 12 days, depending on conditions.

This program is part of the District’s commitment to wildfire risk reduction and sustainable and environmentally friendly land management provided by nature’s best grazing goats.
