Robleda-Burke Evacuation Route Project

Last maintenance was completed on November 7, 2025.

Project Description

Portions of Robleda-Burke evacuation route maintenance project represent a significant thoroughfare for the central Los Altos Hills Community. These roads serve as egress and ingress for local residents, daily commuters, and emergency services. To secure the egress / ingress’ integrity, the Los Altos Hills County Fire District proposes a roadside treatment of fuels.

How to Participate in a Project Near You

  • Meet with a team member to discuss specific work on your property
  • Complete and return the Right of Entry (ROE) permit
  • Coordinate your work to remove hazardous vegetation on your parcel with the schedule of the evacuation route project in your area (sign up for our Defensible Space Brush Chipping and Removal Program)

Complete the Right of Entry (ROE) permit on the Santa Clara County FireSafe Council website

EXAMPLE 1: Vegetation will be trimmed back from intersections to reduce fuels and maintain the line of sight for the safety of motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

EXAMPLE 2: Low-growing tree branches and excess vegetation are cut away from the lower portion of the trees to create a separation between the tree canopy and ground fuels, also known as ladder fuels.

Project Site

The Robleda-Burke project will treat six (6) roads along the evacuation route. These include Robleda Road, Chapin Road, Fremont Road, W. Edith Avenue, Burke Road, and Old Altos Road.

This project will treat the following sections of each road:

  • Robleda Road from Elena Road to Fremont Road. Approximately 1.5 linear miles, 3.0 treated miles.
  • Chapin Road from Robleda Road to Burke Road. Approximately 0.3 linear miles, 0.6 treated miles.
  • Fremont Road from W. Edith Avenue to Burke Road. Approximately 0.43 linear miles, 0.86 treated miles.
  • W. Edith Avenue from Fremont Road to University Avenue. Approximately 0.16 linear miles, 0.32 treated miles.
  • Burke Road from Chapin Road to University Avenue. Approximately 0.44 linear miles, 0.88 treated miles.
  • Old Altos Road from Burke Road to Fremont Road. Approximately 0.10 linear miles, 0.20 treated miles.

Total project area: 5.86 treated miles

2023 November Initial Treatment

The 2023 initial treatment of Robleda – Burke treated six (6) roadways:

  • Robleda Road from Elena Road to Fremont Road
  • Chapin Road from Robleda Road to Burke Road
  • Fremont Road from W. Edith Avenue to Burke Road
  • W. Edith Avenue from Fremont Road to University Avenue
  • Burke Road from Chapin Road to University Avenue
  • Old Altos Road from Burke Road to Fremont Road
