At its March 16, 2021, Regular Meeting, the LAHCFD Board of Commissioners approved a Professional Services Agreement for Hazardous Fire Fuel Reduction Goat Grazing Services between the Los Altos Hills County Fire District and Ecosystem Concepts, Inc. Historically, the grazing of fields by goats was used as a method of vegetation mitigation and hazardous fire fuel management. Commencing in 2006, Ecosystem Concepts, Inc. (“ECI”) provided goat grazing services to the Los Altos Hills County Fire District (“District”) to mitigate vegetation for hazardous fire fuel reduction in difficult-to-reach terrain such as the Byrne Preserve. This effort resulted in a significant decrease of vegetative mass thus creating desirable fuel breaks and fire safety.
The goats are expected to arrive in the Byrne Preserve sometime between April and June 2023. Check back at this site for a goat arrival announcement.
