Mora-Summerhill Evacuation Route Project

Project Description

The Mora-Summerhill evacuation route represents a significant thoroughfare for the Southern Los Altos Hills Community. These roads serve as egress and ingress for local residents, daily commuters, and emergency services. To secure the egress / ingress’ integrity, the Los Altos Hills County Fire District proposes a roadside treatment of fuels. Trimming woody vegetation, pruning trees, clearing dead material, weed whipping dry grasses and removing roadside trash reduces wildfire risks.

Low-growing tree branches and excess vegetation are cut away from the lower portion of the trees to create a separation between the tree canopy and ground fuels. Vegetation will be trimmed back from intersections to reduce fuels and maintain the line of sight for the safety of motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

Weeds, grasses and ground vegetation within the public right of way are trimmed to shorter than 6".

Project Site

The 2025 Mora-Summerhill project treated four (4) roads along the evacuation route.

• Mora Drive from Eastbrook Avenue to Mora Dive at the Rancho San Antonio Preserve boundary. Approximately 0.5 linear miles, 1 treated mile.
• Ravensbury Avenue from Magdalena Avenue to Camino Hermoso Drive. Approximately 1 linear mile, 2 treated miles.
• Magdalena Avenue from Ravensbury Avenue to Summerhill Avenue. Approximately 0.7 linear miles, 1.4 treated miles.
• Summerhill Avenue from Magdalena Avenue to El Monte Road. Approximately 1 linear mile, 2 treated miles.

The North end of the project is located at the intersection of Summerhill and El Monte Avenue (37.36558, -122.11546) and the Southern end of the project is located at the end of Mora Drive near the entrance to the Rancho San Antonio Preserve (37.337828, -122.100975)

Total treated area: approximately 3.2 linear miles, 6.4 treated miles.

1. Mora Drive from Eastbrook Avenue to Mora Drive at the Rancho San Antonio Preserve Boundary

The 2025 maintenance treatment of Mora – Summerhill combined Mora – Ravensbury and Magdalena – Summerhill and treated a total of four (4) roadways.

2. Summerhill Avenue from Magdalena Avenue to El Monte Road
3. Magdalena Avenue from Ravensbury Avenue to Summerhill Avenue
