Project Description
To secure the integrity of the Elena Road to Fremont Road egress/ingress route, which includes the La Barranca Road I-280 underpass, Los Altos Hills County Fire District and Santa Clara County FireSafe Council propose a roadside treatment of hazardous fuels. For clarification, projects may be named for the roadways that signify the beginning and end of the project. Therefore, this project is named the Elena-Fremont Evacuation Route project, although it does not include the Elena I-280 underpass. The Elena Road I-280 underpass will be hardened as part of the Black Mountain-Purissima Evacuation Route hardening project in March 2024.

Project Site
This evacuation route project will treat all or portions of five roadways: Elena Road, La Barranca Road, Purissima Road, Concepcion Road and Fremont Road. Please note that our route will go by Gardner Bullis School. We are in communication with them to minimize impact on the school.
The Elena Road portion of this evacuation project will begin at the intersection of Elena Road and Natoma Road and end at the intersection of Elena Road and La Barranca Road.
The La Barranca Road portion will begin at the previous Elena Road intersection and end at Purissima Road.
Treatment on Purissima Road will begin at the previous La Barranca Road intersection and end at the intersection with Concepcion Road.
Concepcion Road, from Purissima Road to the intersection with Fremont Road at the entrance to the Los Altos Hill Town Hall will be treated.
Finally, Fremont Road from Town Hall to the intersection with West Edith Avenue will be included in this project.
The length of the project is approximately:
- The Elena Road section is 2,997.15 linear feet, which equates to 1.14 miles to treat both sides of the roadway.
- La Barranca Road is 2,121.75 linear feet, which equates to 0.80 miles to treat both sides of the roadway.
- The included section of Purissima Road is 582.75 linear feet, which equates to 0.22 miles to treat both sides of the roadway.
- Concepcion Road, from where it begins at Purissima Road, to Fremont Road is 4,626.06 linear feet, which equates to 1.75 miles to treat both sides of the roadway.
- Fremont Road from Town Hall to W. Edith Avenue is 4,124.51 linear feet, which equates to 1.56 miles to treat both sides of the roadway.
- A total of 5.47 miles of roadway shoulder will be treated.
