Be Ready Be Prepared: Creating Emergency Plans

This presentation was the first in a series of educational opportunities the Los Altos Hills County Fire District will offer this year. New this year, most of the District’s presentations are offered in a hybrid format, with in-person and remote attendance via Zoom. For this series, in-person attendees will receive a different personal preparedness item for each class they attend, to supplement their preparedness kits.

  1. Design a Family Emergency Plan
    • Types of disasters or emergencies
    • Making-a-Plan: individual, family, and neighborhood plans
    • How your neighbors can be included in your emergency planning
  1. Essentials for Building an Emergency Supply Kit
    • How kits and items vary depending on the type of disaster
    • Planning kits for every family member needs- including pets
    • Supply lists for Go Bags and first aid kits
  1. Learn how to sign up to receive local emergency alerts
    • SBLX, Nixle & AlertSCC
  1. Stay Informed: know your local resources
    • Know where to find accurate and verified emergency information during a disaster

Class activities for participants included:

  • Gathering information to complete the planning guides in the Wildfire Emergency Preparedness Workbook for individuals, families, and neighbors
  • Reviewing essential items for Go bags and first aid kits
  • Signing up for emergency alerts. View Alerts and Warnings Guide to sign up for alerts and reliable emergency information.

This class was presented on Saturday, January 24, 2026, by LAHCFD Community Education & Risk Reduction Team members Denise Gluhan, Debbie Stocksick, and Dee King Raub at the Los Altos Hills Council Chamber.
