Why Go Firewise?

What is Firewise?

Why Go Firewise Flyer. Listing benefits and how to start.

Wildfire threat is year-round! Residents need to be ready and prepared. Communities need to be resilient. Neighbors helping neighbors–this is what Firewise USA® is all about. Based on fire science, the NFPA Firewise USA recognition program teaches how to prepare homes to withstand embers and prevent flames and surface fire from igniting your home and immediate surroundings. Residents join together as a Firewise site and take action to prepare themselves, their homes, and their properties against the threat of wildfire. They look out for one another and provide those needing assistance with help in emergency preparation.LAHCFD is here to support your efforts to build safer neighborhoods that can reduce risks and losses resulting from wildfires.

What are the benefits?

Firewise sites promote a culture of readiness and action that will save lives and homes in the event of a wildfire. Working together to identify risks and solve problems, the neighborhood takes on projects that may be overwhelming alone. Including neighborhood clean-up days and evacuation drills.

  • Learn about wildfire preparation and fire science.
  • Participate in building a safer community.
  • Participating Firewise USA® residents may be eligible to receive an insurance discount. It’s the California law effective April 2023.
  • Create a framework for action.
  • Get access to funding and assistance.
  • Gain peace of mind.
