Be Ready Be Prepared: Inclement Weather

Fire Captain Denise Gluhan (retired) speaks in Town Hall

This presentation was the second in a series of educational opportunities the Los Altos Hills County Fire District will offer this year. New this year, most of the District’s presentations are offered in a hybrid format, with in-person and remote attendance via Zoom. For this series, in-person attendees will receive a different personal preparedness item for each class they attend, to supplement their preparedness kits.

Topics Covered included:

  1. The types of inclement weather and unique challenges that affect the Los Altos Hills County Fire District area.
  2. The steps to take to prepare for inclement weather on your property & for your own personal preparedness.
  3. How to get information on inclement weather events, alerts and warnings
  4. How you can help your family, neighbors, and community prepare winter and summer weather extremes.
  5. How to sign up to receive local emergency alerts – Nixle & AlertSCC
  6. Staying Informed: Informational mobile applications and resources available.

Class activities for participants included:

  • Gathering information to complete the planning guides in the Wildfire Emergency Preparedness Workbook for individuals, families, and neighbors
